Designing with Recycled Materials

This programme shows how Sony and Indesit are rising to the challenge by designing mass-produced products from recycled plastics. Case studies include a chair made from Playstations and washing machines that use parts made from recycled fridge plastic. We follow the design process from concept, to modelling, testing and evaluation. We also visit a state of the art plastics recycling plant to see how new technology is being used to process and convert waste products into high-grade polymers and how material properties and characteristics are identified using both destructive and non-destructive tests. MIDDLETOWN (Connecticut) - "E' una carneficina". Sono drammatiche le notizie che arrivano dalla centrale elettrica a Middletown, nello stato americano del Connecticut. Ore dopo il sindaco dà cifre più rassicuranti: "Sono cinque le vittime accertate e 12 i feriti - dice - ma si scava ancora ei timori restano".Difficile per ora fare un bilancio sicuro dell'esplosione. Anche perché non è chiaro neanche quante persone fossero al lavoro: c'è chi parla di 50 e chi di 300. Quello che è certo è che la deflagrazione è stata fortissima e si è fatta sentire per una quindicina di chilometri intorno all'epicentro. L'esplosione è stata avvertita a decine di chilometri di distanza, da Oxford a North Haven, Cheshire e Mystic sull'Atlantico. [ voir sur Youtube.com ]
